Ruby-J. Smith, née en 1906, conjointe de William-Edwin Smith, fille de Mathew et Elizabeth-Beasley, mère de Judy, est décédée le 15 juillet 1906 à l'âge de 102 ans. Veuillez consulter son avis de décès ici:
Ruby J. Smith, 102, was born in Glenwood-Wheeler County, Ga., to Mathew Byrd and Elizabeth Beasley Adams, July 15, 1906. She was the ninth of 10 children. Ruby attended a one-room schoolhouse and helped on the family farm picking cotton, etc. She was taught to sew by her older sister, so when she decided to leave the farm (in her early 20s) and move to Ft. Lauderdale to live with an older brother, she obtained a position as a seamstress where clothes were designed from start to finish. It was in Ft. Lauderdale that she met and married her future husband, William Edwin Smith. He was a watchmaker and jeweler. They opened Smith Jewelers in 1960 and worked together until he passed away in 1972. Ruby moved back to Glenwood, where they had built a home for retirement purposes. She stayed in Glenwood until the age of 94 (2000), at which time she moved to St. Augustine to be near her daughter and extended family. Ruby lived on her own, cooking and taking care of herself until just before her 100th birthday, when she suffered a stroke. She moved into the Samantha Wilson Care Center, where she passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 3, 2009. Ruby is survived by a daughter, Judy Adams-Smith; two grandchildren, Keith Wegner of St. Augustine and Kim Foster (Chuck) of Trinity, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Smith Foster, also of Trinity. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at First Methodist Church in Glenwood, Ga. Flowers are gratefully accepted, or you may choose to make a memorial donation in Ruby's honor to your favorite charity. Arrangements by Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park.
