Watkinsville Ruby Ellen Ivie Hayes, widow of Howard William Hayes, entered her heavenly home on April 20, 2011, with her daughters at her side. She was born December 23, 1925 in Oconee County, to James Worth and Cleo Huff Ivie. She was a lifelong resident of Watkinsville and was educated in the Oconee County School System. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church, having joined in April of 1940. Ruby married Howard William Hayes in July of 1943. Together, they operated a family farm while raising three daughters. They gave to the community and to their families in numerous ways throughout their lives. Ruby is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Hayes and Henry L. Mauldin, Gail Hayes and Eugene Moore, and Judy Hayes and David Parker, all of Watkinsville; her grandchildren (and spouses), who were the light of her life and so loved by her, Christopher L. and Cathy Mauldin, of Jacksonville, Fla., Barbara J. Moore and Jeffery A. Brewer, of Farmington, Jonathon W. and Laura Mauldin, of Augusta, K. Elizabeth Moore and Dr. John K. Krebs of Lancaster, Penn., M. Jason and Kim Mauldin, of Watkinsville, and Eric B. Parker, of Reading, Penn.; and her great-grandchildren, Mitch Mauldin, Joshua Brewer, Brittany Mauldin, Adam Brewer, Samantha Mauldin, Kelsey Mauldin, Jesse Mauldin, Nicholas Krebs, Kaitlyn Mauldin, Justin Krebs, and Alyssa Mauldin. Ruby is also survived by her brother, Alvin Thurman Ivie, of Farmington, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her sisters, Agnes Marshall, Katie Elder, and Doris Scoggins, and brothers, Morris Ivie and James Chester Ivie. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Odyssey Hospice Care, their staff, and especially to Ruby's caregiver, Donna Patel. Many thanks also go to University Health & Rehab Center, their staff, and Mrs. Hayes's many caregivers. Ruby will be greatly missed by her circle of devoted ladies and friends, especially Mrs. Mary Katherine Smith. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. at the chapel of Lord & Stephens, West, with Rev. Craig Mauldin officiating. Interment will be in Huff Cemetery. Mrs. Hayes's grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, is in charge of arrangements.
