OBITUARY RUBY DORIS JACKSON (nee ALEXANDER) "The Wind Beneath our Wings" Our beloved Ruby has bid her final adieu. After a short illness, she passed away peacefully on May 22, 2006 at the Montreal General Hospital. Ruby joins her late husband, Jack, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage. She will be dearly missed by her four sons, Jack Jr. (Carole), Rick (Louise), Terry (Bonnie), and Rob (Sharon). Ruby was a caring sister-in-law to Helena and aunt to Shirley, Marge, Ken Jr., Glenn, Linda, Bruce, Neil, Judy, Kim, David and Bill. Her wonderful spirit will be forever cherished by her ten grandchildren, Scott, Michelle, Joelle, Shaun, Joanna, Heidi, Holly, Tim, Ryan and Lauren and four great-grandchildren, Jill, Ellie, Kate and Owen. She was predeceased by her brother Ken, brothers-in law Bob and Graham and sisters-in-law, Bea and Meta. Born in Montreal on September 17, 1917 to Rupert Irvine Alexander of Gaspe QC and Nancy Maude Eaman of Ingleside ON, Ruby grew up in Montreal West where she attended Elizabeth Ballantyne School and Montreal West High. She earned a Bachelor of Household Science from McGill/MacDonald College. Upon graduation, she trained at the Montreal General Hospital and later became head dietician at Eaton's Ninth Floor restaurant. When Jack returned home following World War II, she became a fulltime homemaker dedicating her life to her loving husband and four boys. Ruby was a very special lady filled with a wonderful sense of humour and an immense joy for living which was enjoyed by all those around her. Her selflessness was evident in her day to day life, always finding only the positives in everybody. She contributed her time and energies to charitable causes including Centraide and the Montreal Association for Retarded Children. Ruby loved to entertain and was the ultimate hostess, forever ensuring that everyone felt "at home" while enjoying her culinary delights. She was also blessed with an incredible memory, never forgetting to acknowledge everyone's special achievements/milestones, whether minor or major. Ruby was a most incredible wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Now Ruby has reached the end of her journey, and what a memorable journey it was for all of us who were fortunate enough to have shared it with her. Her strong sense of family values, unconditional love, support and generosity comprise the wonderful legacy she leaves to us all. We love you, Mother. You were indeed - "the wind beneath our wings." A private family service was held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec, 1434 Ste-Catherine St. West, Suite 500, Montreal QC H3G 1R4 or The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada, 7100 Woodbine Ave, Suite 311, Markham, ON L3R 5J2 would be greatly appreciated. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the marvelous, caring staffs on 14 West at the Montreal General and at the Julius Richardson Centre.
