->HALLOWELL -- Roy George Jackson, 58, of Hallowell, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after a long illness. He had been hit by a drunk driver at the age of 5.Roy put up a long hard fight and was not expected to live past the age of 18. He was born in Appleton on March 26, 1951, the son of John Morrow Jackson and Farilyn (Phillips) Jackson. After his injury and rehabilitation, Roy lived at the Cotton Mill Apartments in Hallowell for 30 years where he made many friends who will miss him. His mother also lived in the Cotton Mill for many years and tended to Roy until her death in 2008.Roy also looked forward to visits from his brother Philip and his wife, Mary, and other family members who came by to talk to and run errands for him. Roy enjoyed the independence of having his own apartment until he had to give it up for recent health reasons. He spent a short time at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center.Roy enjoyed watching and collecting movies, playing beano, going shopping, especially at Wal-Mart, and attending church. He also enjoyed going to Slates and the Coin Center to play games. He had a great love of music and liked to listen to hymns for hours.Roy is survived by his brothers, Arthur and his wife, Val, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Phillip and his wife, Mary, of Rockport, Keith and his wife, Rose Marie, of Morrill, and Maynard and his wife, Ellena, of New Castle; his sister, Doris Smalley and her companion, Dave, of Sanford; his aunt, Madelyn Dupris, of Bradley and his nephew, Dustin Tucker, of Morrill.A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.khrfuneral homes.com. 6913166
