Rose C. Smithof Endwell, formerly of Plains, Pa.Rose Catherine (Kane) Smith, 92, born on May 8, 1911, former resident of Endwell, N.Y., passed away after a short illness on December 16, 2003, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Nazaleen Hancock, Forest Hills, N.Y. The daughter of Catherine (Lawlor) and Michael Kane, Rose was the last survivor of six siblings. Born in Miners Mills, Pa., and raised in Plains, Pa., she was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains, Pa., and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Tompkins County Memorial Hospital, Ithaca, N.Y., and at several Syracuse and Binghamton area hospitals. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank J. Wood, Harry D. Hancock, and Glenn E. Smith; a stepson, David A. Hancock passed away in January. Surviving are her son, Frank J. Hancock, Forest Hills, N.Y.; daughter, Catherine Hancock, Syracuse, N.Y.; and stepdaughter, Linda Kulick, Hop Bottom, Pa.; six grandsons, Mark S. Hancock, Washington, D.C., John Hancock, Syracuse, N.Y., Todd M. Hancock, Albuquerue, N.Mex., Corey A. Hancock, Coral Springs, Fla., Frank J. W. Hancock, and David J.W. Hancock, Forest Hills, N.Y.; step grandson, Kurt Kulick, Hop Bottom, Pa.; five nephews, Paul A. Ryan, James M. Ryan, Walter Kane, Jack Kane and Paul Kane; and a niece, Marjorie KaneViewing will be at the Corcoran Funeral Home, Plains, Pa., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Monday at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Plains, Pa., and interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The family of Rose Smith requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Parish, 28 Oak St., Plains, Pa. 18705.
