SANFORD ; Romeo "Fat" Morin, 73, a longtime resident of Sanford, died peacefully in his home on Dec. 17, 2008.Romeo was born in Sanford on May 14, 1935, the second son of Leo P. and Rachael (Isabelle) Morin.He attended St. Ignatius School.He served in the United States Army.Mr. Morin worked for the Town of Sanford and then for 18 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a painter.Romeo was an active member of Bible Speaks in South Berwick for over 35 years. He gave generously of his time and talents by singing in the choir and driving the Sunday School Bus.A real "people person," Romeo could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He bestowed nicknames on his friends and family. Romeo remained independent and fought hard when he faced cancer and other medical conditions.He enjoyed trips to Wells Beach and dinner out at Ted's Fried Clams. This past fall, he and his family took the scenic train ride up in North Conway, New Hampshire.When his future wife Janet asked him out on a date in her '57 Dodge convertible, Romeo knew there was only one correct answer to that invitation. They became soul mates, raised a family together and spoiled the grandchildren as they came along. Mr. Morin had a favorite saying, "When I'm broke, I'm happy." He gave his love unconditionally and made sure his family and friends did not go without.He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet (Pierce) Morin, of Sanford; one daughter, Shirley Allain-McAtavey and husband Keith, of Lebanon; two grandsons, Justin Allain, of Sanford, and Jeremy Allain, of Lebanon; one granddaughter, Kaylee McAtavey, of Lebanon; one great-grandaughter, Addyson Allain, of Sanford; two brothers, Maurice Morin and wife Rejeanne, of Sanford, and Leo Morin, of South Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ernest.Calling hours were held on Monday, Dec. 22, followed by a funeral service that evening at the Autumn Green Funeral Home at 47 Oak Street in Alfred.
