Roger Chapman Jr. LEXINGTON, NC Roger Chapman Jr., 79, of Lexington NC passed away July 17, 2012.Over 200 people attended the funeral on July 21 at Jersey Baptist Church in Lexington. Rev Michael Collier and Roger's two sons, Rev Bryan Chapman and Stephen Chapman conducted the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery.Roger was born and brought up in Brattleboro, Vt., the son of Roger and Emily Chapman. He graduated from Brattleboro High School and received an electrical engineering degree, Magna Cum Laude, from UVM.One of the highlights of his career at Bell Laboratories was his significant contributions to the Telstar Project, the first communications satellite. He pursued a challenging career in both NJ and NC and retired as Director after 35 years.Throughout his life Roger was continually active in church work, filling many positions, and he especially loved singing in the choir.Another of his greatest pleasures was spending time and traveling with his family.Surviving Roger are his wife of 59 years, Barbara Tate Chapman, son Stephen Chapman of Brewster, Mass., son Rev Bryan Chapman of Garner, N.C., and daughter Lynn Myers of Lexington, N.C., and their spouses, as well as seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Linda Ives of Dummerston, Vt., and was predeceased by another sister, Emily Newton.
