OWENS, Robert Stanley Age 85. January 16, 2008. Was born May 31, 1922 in Hansonville, VA to Edward J. and Nora Alice Arrington Owens. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Edith "Edee" Couch Owens. A special husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. Stan is survived by sister, Sibyl (George) Beals of Kingsport, TN and Helen (Robert) Epley of Marion, NC; brother, John (Clara) Owens of Longview, TX; special niece, Jean (Carl) Bennett of Jonesborough, TN; sisters-in-law, Sibyl Truxton of Nashville, Pearl (E.J.) Allen of Clarksville, TN and Ruby Owens of Decatur, GA; many beloved nieces and nephews; family friend, Richard Conditt. Stan attended Lebanon High School, Lebanon, VA; Elizabethton School of Business, Elizabethton, TN; University of The South, Sewanee, TN and the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II from 1942 to 1946. Stan founded and operated The Owens Company, a Letter Service, Direct Mail Advertising and Office Machine Dealership in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was Executive Director of the Tennessee Motor Transport Association in Nashville, TN; Executive Vice President and President of the Tennessee Building Material Association, Nashville, TN for 27 years. Stan represented many interests on Capital Hill for over fifty years until his retirement. He was also active many years in fundraising activities for many civic organizations; 1947 Outstanding Young Man of the Year, Jaycees; Johnson City, TN, President, Johnson City Jaycees; State Director and Vice President of Tennessee Jaycees; Executive Committee and founder, editor and publisher of Post Publication; Life member of American Legion; Director and Executive Committee of National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association; Charter member of the Capital Club of Nashville and Nashville City Club; founder and first President of the Capitol Hill Club; Founder and President of the Tennessee Society of Association Executives. Special thanks to Dr. Byrce Dixon, the staff and residents of Windlands Retirement Community and to Stan's many friends at Greenland's for their love and concern. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m., Monday at Woodlawn's Dignity Hall. Burial will be on Wednesday in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in Stan's memory.
