NORTHFORD - Robert Paul Smith, Sr., 76, passed, away Thursday, March 12, 2009, at MidState Medical Center, Meriden. He was the husband of Mary Spencer Smith. Born in Holyoke, Mass. on Jan. 23, 1933; son of the late Enos Francis Smith Sr. and Anna Ruth Walsh Smith. Robert had worked for United Technologies for many years and served his country faithfully as a Corporal in the U.S. Army 1821 HQ CO, 32nd Infantry Regiment during the Korean War receiving the National Defense, Korean Service and United Nations Service Medals. He was the father of Robert P. Smith Jr. (Megan Wheeler) of Clarksville, Md., Michael A. Smith (Chuanhua) of Holden, Mass., Deborah L. Scheller of North Branford and David B. Smith (Liesje) of East Hampton; grandfather of Zihao Gao, Jason P. Smith, Dieter W. Scheller Jr., David B. Smith Jr., Katherine A. Smith and Autumn Grace Smith; brother of Mary Paakkonen (Viljo) of Stafford Springs and the late Enos and Francis Smith. His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Monday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Monica's Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Northford Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Sunday (TODAY) from 3 to 6 pm.
