ROBERT "BOB" ORRIN JACKSON, 68 WINTER HAVEN - Robert "Bob" Orrin Jackson, 68, of Winter Haven passed away on October 30, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis and is survived by their four children: Kathleen Winter (Michael) of Tampa, Fla., Maureen Jackson of Tampa, Sharon Jackson, and Robert P. Jackson, both of Winter Haven, and a granddaughter, Tess Winter. He is also survived by brothers Raymond Jackson (Antoinette) of Winter Haven, Paul Jackson of Tom's River, NJ, and Harry Jackson of Somerville, NJ, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companions PD and Diva. Born in Somerville, NJ, Bob lived a life of service and caring for others. He served in the U.S. Army for six years, where he met and married his wife, an Army nurse. They married in 1965, just before Bob shipped out to Vietnam where he served as a medic with the 68th Medical Group. He began his nursing career in 1970 at Winter Haven Hospital and worked there for 35 years, in the emergency room and surgical ICU. He was well-known throughout the hospital and is fondly remembered for his sense of humor and practical jokes on fellow nurses. Bob loved emergency medicine and worked full-time as a paramedic for Polk County EMS for 30 years, while continuing part-time at Winter Haven Hospital. He retired in 2005 as a supervisor. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Winter Haven Hospital, Good Shepherd Hospice, Eric, Mario, Lyra and Davika of Granny's Nannies for their care, and friends and family who came to visit Bob during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m., at Oak Ridge Funeral Home in Winter Haven. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church chapel in Winter Haven.
