Funeral for Robert Milton Hames, 83, of Trinity will be Thursday, May 13, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Caddo Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.Mr. Hames died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Lawrence County to John Hames and Nannie Bowling Hames. He was a member of Caddo United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He graduated from Auburn University. Mr. Hames was the longest serving member on the board of directors since the start of the West Morgan-East Lawrence Water Authority in 1969. He was presently chairman of the board of directors and had served as chairman of the board on several occasions. The 8-million-gallon-a-day water treatment plant, built in 1996, located at Milton’s Bluff on the Tennessee River in Lawrence County, was named the Robert Milton Hames Water Treatment Plant in honor of his dedication and devotion to the water system. In March 1995, he was awarded the Alabama Rural Water, Director of the Year award for his contribution to the water industry. He was instrumental in starting the process to make sewer available in the county. His wisdom, dedication and sincere devotion to his community, family and friends will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife, Myrl Pitt Hames; two sons, Tharrell Latham of Trinity and Noel Hames of Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Judy Holzworth of Athens and Iris Hames of Trinity; one sister, Elma Raye Fuller of Trinity; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Michael Malone, Jason Beck, Marl Fuller, Harry Fuller, Don Sims and W.O. Hames.
