Robert Maxwell Jr., 39 BUXTON -- Robert Edward Maxwell Jr., 39, of Pine Country Drive, died peacefully late Sunday evening at his residence after a courageous battle with melanoma, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Portland on May 9, 1967, the son of Robert and Sylvia (Barnes) Maxwell. As a child he attended schools in Cape Elizabeth and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in 1985. While in high school, Robert was the winning pitcher at the state baseball championships at Orono during his senior year. Robert proudly served his country by enlisting into the U.S. Army. He served from 1985 to 1993 and attained the rank of corporal. He went on to further his education at the University of Southern Maine and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Robert was a Social Studies teacher at Bonny Eagle High School for nine years. Global Village, which is a freshman class, and Modern European History, an elective, were the primary courses he taught. From 2003 - 2004, Robert was a Buxton Little League Coach. He enjoyed baseball cards and coins, working in the outdoors, recreational boating on Little Sebago Lake, and was an avid history enthusiast. He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne (Fontenot) Maxwell of Buxton; his children, Kyle, Rachel, Edward and James Maxwell of Buxton; a stepdaughter, Nicole Brown of Tennessee; his parents, Robert Sr. and Sylvia Maxwell of Cape Elizabeth; two sisters, Laurie Lopriore of Connecticut and Rebecca Maxwell of Scarborough; three stepgrandchildren; four sisters-in-law; four nephews; four nieces; and many other relatives, friends, and students. Robert's family would like to thank the people of the MSAD No. 6 community, Grace Bible church in Gorham, and his friends and neighbors for their generosity, help and support. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Routes 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Grace Bible Church, on the Deering Road in Gorham. Burial will be later in spring. A memorial service in addition to the funeral service, will be announced at a later date that will be held at Bonny Eagle High School. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests that memorial contributions be made to either: The Melanoma Research Foundation 24 Old Georgetown Road Princeton, New Jersey 08540; or to a College Trust Fund for Robert's children at Tru Choice FCU P.O.
