Avis de décès de Robert-Lee Morris

MORRIS Robert Lee Morris, Sr., born July 25, 1917, passed away on Sunday, April 8th at his residence in Jacksonville. Born and raised in High Point, NC, Bob was the oldest of six children born to Clyde and Connie Morris. Bob loved his family and was a dedicated husband to Mary Leah Morris who passed away six months ago after 73 years of marriage. He was a loving father to five children, Richard Morris (Atlanta); Barbara Morris (deceased); Judy Morris Hixenbaugh, Robert Morris, Jr. (both in Jacksonville) and Catherine Morris Heaps (deceased). He was also a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. Bob was an Ammunition Sergeant in the Army during WWII, serving first in Africa then Italy where he earned six service medals including two BRONZE STARS for his heroism. When he returned from the War, he began his career with American Bakeries in High Point as a delivery truck driver and steadily worked his way up the ladder to become Vice President of American Bakeries. His career took him and his family to Charlotte and Atlanta before settling in Jacksonville in the sixties. Bob Morris was an Elder at Arlington Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing golf in his leisure time. Bob Morris will be remembered by all who knew him for his big heart and personality that filled a room, his loyalty, courage, biting wit, unique sense of humor and his twinkling blue eyes. He will be sorely missed. A funeral service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Friday, April 13th at 1pm officiated by his son, The Rev. Dr. Robert Morris, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Open Door Fund (118 East Monroe Street, Jacksonville 32202). Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
