FORT MILL – Robert "Lee" Johnson, 89, of Fort Mill, husband of Bobbie Jean Johnson, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. His funeral service is 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 10, at J. Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, West Ashley Chapel.Lee was born March 16, 1925, in Branchville, son of the late William Thomas Johnson and Mary Sims Johnson. Lee embraced life with the same enthusiasm as he embraced his family. He lived by the Ten Commandments and encouraged others to do so as well. He loved boating and picnics on Kiawah Island, he was a master woodworker, avid runner and a beloved member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and Belair United Methodist Church in Fort Mill. He was an Eagle Scout and troop leader and was active in the Civitan Club of Charleston. His commitment to his country led him to service in WWII, serving aboard the destroyer Patterson as part of the World's Greatest Generation who risked their lives for our country's freedom. He was a retired Gas Turbine Superintendent for SCE&G. He was also a Past Master of James Island Lodge No. 396 A.F.M. Lee was truly a Southern gentleman and a man of his word, but mostly he was a man of God. His quick smile and handshake shall be missed by the many lives he touched. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Janice Glaus Johnson.He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of Fort Mill; son, Darryl G. Johnson (Carol) of Charleston; daughter, Robin J. Ivey of James Island; two sisters, Rebecca S. Johnson and Julia J. Britton, both of Charleston; stepson, Karl F. Griffin; two stepdaughters, Debbie Hiott and Maryann Blackmore (Mark); three grandchildren, Laura Ivey Castle (Rich), Stuart B. Parks (Meredith) and Nicholas A. Johnson; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Grace Castle; and a sister-in-law, Shirley G. Lackey of Beaufort, SC.Memorials may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407; or Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Road, Fort Mill, SC 29707.
