ROBERT JOHNSON Robert Johnson, 86, of 109 Gussie Street, Ithaca, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Bath Veterans Center. Born July 6, 1921 in Syracuse, New York, son of the late Frank and Anna Taylor Johnson. After graduating from high school, Bob served with the 5th Army during WWII, preparing smoke screens for the troops to enter combat in Italy. Returning home, he worked at the Ithaca Gun Company, and then retiring from the Ithaca Post Office. A life member of both the V.F.W. Post 961 and the American Legion Post 221, he helped coordinate the Veterans Day Parade and ordered the flags that were placed on the graves for Memorial Day. He is survived by his wife: Esther Johnson, step-children: David Lloyd and Patricia Jones, one sister: Maddy Briggs, nephews: Robert, Raymond and Duane Sims, Dyke and Barry, and nieces: Anna Sims, Diane and Dawn, also one great-nephew: Lewis Sims. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Donnabelle Brown Johnson and sisters: Geraldine Woods and Marie Sims. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Bangs Funeral Home with Rev. Leo Reinhardt. Friends may call from 11:30 to 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial with full military honors to follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Bath V.A. Volunteer Services, 76 Veterans Ave., Bath, New York 14810 or the V.F.W. Post 961 or American Legion Post 221.
