Robert John Shanks June 6, 2017 Stock prices in Chapman ice cream dropped dramatically on June 6, 2017 when Robert (Bob) went "all in" at 90 years of age. Bob charmed his way into the life of his beautiful bride Elaine (Mills) 67 years ago. From there it was a nonstop work in progress of children, Al (Mavis), Brent (Wanda), Terry (Madeline), Don (Mary Jo), Deb (Derek White) and Scott (Michele). At this point they decided he needed another hobby. His children followed his example by blessing him with 15 grandchildren who in turn made him a Gpa to 11, a number that is sure to grow. Waiting for him at the Hold ''Em table are his Mom (Eva) and Dad (Archie), son Ronald (1956) and best friend and brother Bill. Bob will be teaching great-grandson Journey Stickney the game soon enough but until then he will rock him in those loving arms and giant hands. Bob also leaves his beautiful sisters Grace (Ross) and Mary Jane (Reg) to sing without him and his sister in law Audrey that will be missing that loud resounding voice that would melt your heart. Thanks to the compassionate care of Maggie Davidson, Bob was surrounded by family and friends until his table was ready. Bob focused his life on raising his family, farming and his business Steel Groyne Construction. Upon retiring he spent his time driving around, visiting and talking to anyone that would listen! In heavens'' card games every hand is a winner. Poker pots include casino trips, driving boats, taking beautiful pictures, golfing, choice of seating for all Blue Jays games, euchre, traveling, perfectly planted fields of soybeans, a cache of White Owl cigars and a never ending supply of ice cream! Bob will spend his time engrossed in conversation with the family and friends who went before him to save his spot for the big game. "Big Daddy" taught his family to show respect and concern for others, aspire to be the best person you can be and above all enjoy life. He loved and was loved by everyone he met and he met a lot!Visitation is Friday June 9 from 2-5 and 7-9 at Hammond Funeral Home in Wheatley.
