Mr. Robert James Jackson, 75, of County Highway 107, Amsterdam, passed away Thursday morning, January 22, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York. Born in Cohoes, New York on November 11, 1933, he was the son of the late John and Janette Lennahan Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Waterford High School and received his associate's degree in business from the State University of New York at Cobleskill. Mr. Jackson retired as postal clerk from the United States Postal Service in Schenectady, New York. Mr. Jackson was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving his country from 1955 to 1957. Mr. Jackson was a valued member of the Perth Youth Commission and coached little league baseball for many years. His wife, Joyce Schermerhorn Jackson, to whom he was married on August 26, 1956, survives him at home. Mr. Jackson is also survived by three sons, Mark Edward Jackson and Scott Matthew (Judy) Jackson, all of Amsterdam, New York, and Eric Steven (Courtney) Jackson of Denver, Colorado. Six grandchildren, Adam, Michelle, Alexandra, Hunter and Brooks Jackson, and Andrew Howlan. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, New York, on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial gifts, in Mr. Jackson's name, may be made to Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, in care of Dr. Michael Sheridan, 5011 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, New York 12010.
