LOWELL -- Robert J. Harrington, a resident of Lowell's Centralville section, died Saturday, April 9, at a local nursing home after a brief illness. He was 77.Born in Lowell on Sept. 16, 1927, he was a son of the late William C. and Katherine E. (Maloney) Harrington. He was educated in Lowell schools. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Harrington served in the Navy.In his early years, he was a truck driver and salesman for the Coca Cola Co. He retired from the E.N. Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford after 11 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Lowell, where he was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Holy Name Society.He was an avid golfer and sailor, a member of the American Yacht Club in Newburyport and the Lowell Lodge of Elks. He was also a volunteer for many area causes.He is survived by three brothers and two sisters -in-law, Jeremiah J. and Alice L. Harrington of Fort Thomas, Ky., William C. and Eleanor Harrington of Lowell and George F. Harrington of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Anne Marie Carrabis of Lowell; a sister-in-law, Lola Harrington of York, Maine; a brother-in-law, Alfred J. Carrabis of Lowell; 13 nieces and nephews, Mary Jo Cholod, William J., Robert J., Jeffrey J., Mary Ellen, Brian J., Richard A. and Sheila A. Harrington, Judith A., Jane A. and Thomas R. Carrabis, Kathleen E. Leisteikow and Diane A. Fokas.
