Robert Emerson "Bob" Jones, 79, died Dec. 11, 2007, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach. He was born in Newbury, Ohio, and lived in Barefoot Bay for 11 years, coming from Kings Park, N.Y. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and the Merchant Marine. Before retirement, he worked for Grumman Aerospace for 27 years, where he was chief of crash rescue. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, Barefoot Bay. He was a member of the American Legion in Sidney, Ohio; the Disabled American Veterans, the New York Club, the British Club and Civilian on Patrol, all of Barefoot Bay; the National Fire Protection Association, the National Rifle Association and the Grumman Retiree Club. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Madeline Jones of Barefoot Bay; son, Steven Jones of Fairfield, Conn.; daughter, Barbara C. Jones-Layden of Barefoot Bay; brothers, Joseph Jones of Tennessee, and James Jones and Michael Jones, both of Ohio; sisters, Helen Dhein of Minnesota, Eileen Ricucci, Sue Doyle, Marsha Cost, Rosalie Lunsford, all of Ohio, and Ermajayne Russell of Arizona; and three grandchildren. SERVICES: He will be transferred to the Butler-Hughes Funeral Home in Kings Park, N.Y., for services and burial in Calverton National Cemetery in New York. A memorial service locally will be announced at a later date. Local arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian.
