Robert Emmet "Barney" Gibbons, died in a tragic accident at his home of 36 years in Rockaway Twp. on Nov. 25. He was 65. Born in Jersey City to Irish immigrants, he grew up in Edgewater before moving to Rockaway in 1975. Gibbons served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and soon after began his career as a mechanical engineer and was currently employed at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway. Gibbons is survived by his adoring wife and best friend of 41 years, Patricia E. (Coogan) Gibbons; his loving children, Robert Gibbons and wife Erica, Christine Gibbons, Andrew Gibbons, and Maura Gibbons Papi and her husband, Jeff Papi; his sister, Eileen Sullivan; and his grandson, Cameron John Gibbons. Liturgy was offered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway. Arrangements were provided by the Norman Dean Funeral Home in Denville.
