On Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at 4:30 p.m., Robert Charles Johnson "Brother Bob" joined his Lord and Savior. Bob was born in Piper, Kansas, on October 23, 1923, to Edward and Effie Johnson. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942 and attended Texas A&M University, Friends University and the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Atkinson his son, Robert C. Johnson Jr. of Rogers, Arkansas his daughters, Marylyn Sue Gissler of Baytown, Texas, and Sabra Annette Johnson of Willard, Missouri his brother, Donald Johnson, Springfield, Missouri and sisters, Betty O'Neal, Aurora, Missouri. Preceding him in death are his brothers, Herbert, Kenneth and Howard and sister, Ruth Wilson and Ruby Hitchcock. Brother Bob was grandfather to seven and great-grandfather to 13. Brother Bob touched the lives of hundreds of people during his 58 years of preaching. His career included the leadership of churches in Cheney, Kansas, Liberal, Kansas, and Laporte, Texas. He was the founder of the Seminole Baptist Temple in Springfield, Missouri, and in 1959, founded the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch in Brighton, Missouri. The boys ranch has been the home for numerous young people and is still providing services today. Brother Bob's last church was the Bois D'Arc Baptist Church where he dedicated 19 years of service. Brother Bob and Mary are members of the Rose Hill Baptist Church. The Johnson family wishes to thank the 9 West Nursing staff at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. These individuals demonstrated a level of compassion and care that exceeded all our expectations and everyone went out of their way to provide comfort and support during Brother Bob's seven day transition from this world to the next. Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Greenlawn South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2005, at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, south of Springfield, with military honors.
