BANGOR - Robert Brooks Libby, 75, passed away Sept. 17, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Dec. 29, 1933, in Bangor, the son of Samuel N. and G. Mildred (Brooks) Libby. Bob survived prostate cancer for 15 years. He attended school in Bangor, Etna, Carmel, at the University of Maine and Eastern Maine Community College. Bob worked as the meat manager at McLean's Shop 'N' Save and Hannaford, Millinocket, and retired from the Maine Air National Guard Commissary, Bangor. He was involved with Cub Scouts and served as Cub Master for four years with Troop 66 and helped with Boy Scouts. Bob served in the Army for two years in Germany. After he retired, Bob worked security at the Bangor civic center and drove cars for Hertz Rental Car. His hobby was making wooden lobster boats, some just from pictures. Bob belonged to Etna Grange, Minerva Grange of Levant and Levant Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Dawn (Blakely) Libby; two sons, David Mark Libby and his wife, Mary Jo (Monteith), of Brewer, and Ronald James Libby and his wife, Glynnis (Gregory), of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Josh Dickinson of Bangor, Thomas Dickinson and his wife, Meghana, of Corinth, Deanna L. Libby and James Marden of Calais, Douglas B. Libby of Brewer, Gregory M. Libby and Jessie Barnett of Bradley, Elizabeth E. Libby of Hudson and Reuben G. Libby of Hudson; sisters, Barbara Smith and her husband, Eldred, of Levant, and Lillian Spencer of Bangor; sister-in-law, Barbara L. Page of Brewton, Ala.; brother-in-law, Robert B. Blakely and his wife, Sheila, of Brewton, Ala.; three stepsisters-in-law, Shirley Donavan, Sara Goodwin and Mary Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Connor Libby and Gabrielle Dickinson; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and best friends, Hank and Roxanna McLean of Millinocket. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nina A. (Mott) and Brydon Blakely; sister, Joan (Libby) and her husband, Hollis Hamlin; brothers-in-law, Donald Spencer and Robert Leo Page Jr.; and stepfather-in-law, Ronald Goodwin. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Maine Veterans' Cemetery, Augusta. A memorial reception will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
