Robert "Bob" Barry Fink, died March 29, 2013, after a six year battle with cancer. Born Oct. 18, 1945, a lifelong resident of Braintree, Bob graduated from the high school in 1964, where he was introduced to the building and construction skills that later put him in high demand with his customers. After serving in the Air National Guard and on the ski patrol at Sugarbush, Bob worked with master craftsmen fine tuning his trade. Ultimately he opened his own woodworking and solid surfaces businesses, Weymouth Woodworking and Advanced Solid Surfaces, on the landmark corner of Elm and Washington Streets in Braintree, which he operated for 30 years. One happy customer was heard to say, Bob doesnt build kitchen cabinets, he builds kitchen furniture! A community leader in the Braintree Jaycees, Pop Warner and Boy Scouts (son Rob an Eagle), Bob spent his free time designing and building big things. His proudest achievements were the houses he built for his family in Braintree and lake front in West Newfield, Maine. Works of art they are, stone and beam, from the architecture to the pure perfection of the silky-feel finish of every flat surface. Bob taught his scouts to cook delicious meals and desserts in cast iron kettles over fire pits buried in the ground. He appreciated good food; camping never tasted so good. And a guy never knows when he might need to build another mortar and river rock outdoor cooking and serving area to handle 150 pounds of rotisseried Steamship Roast. His friends at Shady Nook on Balch Lake were grateful and they put his name on the fireplace of the infamous Nooker Cooker. Bob never lost his love of life or his love of all things family and friends. He was the husband of Claire DuBois Fink; father of two children, Robert D. Fink and Kathryn Fink Cacioppo and their spouses, Valerie Long Fink and Michael J. Cacioppo. Bob was a proud and adoring grandfather to Lexi and Josh Fink and Ben and Charlie Cacioppo. He is survived by his brother, Biff Fink, and his twin sister, Eleanor Fink Hughes and their families. His parents, Eleanor and Byron Fink, predeceased him. Visiting hours were held at the Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree, Thursday, April 4, from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service were held Friday, April 5, at the First Congregational Church, 12 Elm St., Braintree Square, at 10 a.m. Gifts may be made in memory of Robert B. Fink to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or via www.dana-farber.org/gift.
