WALTHAM Robert A. Woodside, of Waltham, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a long illness. He was 89. The son of the late James and Amy (Yates) Woodside, he had been a lifelong Waltham resident. An accomplished machinist, he had worked at the Watertown Arsenal, and with both the Louis Shepard and Hyster companies. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a machinist mate 1st class, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with a Bronze Star, the Philippines Liberation Medal with Bronze Star, the American Theatre Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Woodside was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed Cape Cod and Nantucket, spending time with his family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel B. (Long) Woodside, his sisters, Amy Flagg and Emma Huntley, and his brothers, James Woodside and Frederick Woodside. Mr. Woodside is survived by his daughter, Roberta Bearse of Hubbardston; his grandchildren, Brenda and her husband, Jim Glode, of Boxborough, and Brian and his wife, Shannon Becquart, of Brockton; his great-granddaughters, Emileigh, Allyson, Delaney, Casey, Alexa and Madison, and his sisters-in-law, Ann Woodside of Weston and Mary Woodside of Billerica. A private memorial will be held by his family. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the charity of the donors choice. Information available at brascofuneralhome.com.
