Robert A. Buckley of Abington, formerly of Quincy, age 77, beloved husband of Charlotte E (Haverly) passed away June 25 after a long battle with brain cancer, glioblastoma multiform. Loving son of the late John and Martha Buckley; loving brother John Buckley Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Braintree and the late Thomas "Chub" Buckley; loving father of Christine Ortega and husband Dennis of East Bridgewater, Maureen Ortega and husband Ernest of Whitman, Mary Deschamps and husband David of Abington, and Erin Burton and husband Ron of Abington; Also survived by former son in law Christopher Piccuito of Chester, NH and his cherished grandchildren Kyle, Marissa, Victoria and Zachary Ortega, Taylor and Abigail Piccuito, Kaytlin, Kyra, Kirstyn, Kelsey, and Kennedy Deschamps, Samantha Burton and great granddaughter Vivian Ortega. Also, survived by his niece Kathleen Buckley and nephews Michael and Steven Buckley and great nephew Christopher Buckley. Robert was a US Army Veteran and served a tour of duty in the Korean War as an MP. After returning to his hometown of Quincy, he started a career as a machinist at Walworth. It is while he worked there that he met and married his wife Charlotte. They were married 41 years and raised four daughters. Following his retirement from Mason Neilen, he enjoyed going for long walks with his grandchildren. Robert enjoyed spending summer vacation in South Yarmouth for many years where he would enjoy the great beaches of Cape Cod. For nearly the last five years, Robert has fought a brave battle against brain cancer. He was diagnosed in 2005 after suffering a seizure. At that time he was given a life span of 6 months to a year. After his diagnosis, through the tireless efforts of the Neuro-Oncology Department of Tufts Medical Center, he lived to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle and see the birth of two more granddaughters and a great granddaughter. He will be missed by many. Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, Thursday July 1 at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget Church, Abington at 9 a.m. Visitation Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert to: Cleveland Brain Tumor Fund, Tufts Medical Center, Development Office, 800 Washington Street, #231, Boston, MA 02111.
