Rita Kirkland Smith of Florahome passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at St. Vincent's Hospital Middleburg with her family by her side. She was born in Chiefland March 21, 1935 to William Guy and Louise Barrow Kirkland. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Marion Guy, Royce, Horace, Clyatt and William Guy. She is survived by a brother, Herbert Lee Kirkland and his wife Gracie; sister, Margaret Sneed; sisters-in-law, Lucille Kirkland and Lillian Kirkland and many loving nieces and nephews. Rita worked in the food service industry for over 35 years and loved to cook, loved to garden, and loved to fish. She was truly educated by life. Visitation was held Tuesday, Oct. 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Hardage Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205 (904) 781-9262. The funeral was held Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 10 at the funeral home. Burial took place at 3 p.m. at the Long Pond Cemetery in Chiefland.
