Smith, Rita McKee NEW YORK Rita McKee Smith, 99, formerly of Cohoes and Latham, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2014, after a brief illness at Lenox Hill Hospital. Rita was born in Cohoes on March 19, 1915, and was the daughter of the late William and Adeline Wilson McKee. Rita was the widow of Samuel J. Smith and is survived by her sister Elizabeth J. McKee of Cohoes. She resided in Manhattan and East Hampton with her daughter Judy and her husband Joe Gerstner for the past decade. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon with the Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Calling hours will be held at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the Mass. Her interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery Cohoes. The family suggests that contributions in memory of Rita Smith be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering at mskcc.org, or the Academy of Holy Names at ahns.org.
