WALL, Dr. Richard Joseph Mary March 8, 1937 - January 22, 2003 Richard, formerly of Dublin, Ireland, died peacefully at his home in Calgary on Wednesday, January 22. He is survived by his grieving wife, Clair and his four loving daughters: Deirdre, Siobhan, Aisling and Ciara; his grandson Pierce Maxwell Wall Bond; his sons-in-law, Greg Bond and Richard Slipp; Ciara's partner Stephen Rubletz; his sisters Mairead Lavigne, Philomena Chimko, and Veronica Slavik of Edmonton and Saint Albert and their families: his sister-in-law Eilish Goode, of Dublin, Ireland and her family. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Joseph Wall. Richard was an outstanding husband, father and grandfather; he will be intensely missed by his close and devoted family. A professor in the English Department at the University of Calgary, Richard was a noted Joycean scholar, and an avid sailor. His passing has deeply affected his wide circle of friends and colleagues in Calgary, Ireland and around the world, and particularly the sailing fraternity at Howth Yacht Club in Dublin, of which he was a long-time and very active member. Richard was educated at Blackrock College, Dublin, Ireland; the University of Calgary, where he received a B.Ed and an M.A. and University College, Dublin, where he received a Ph.D. He was the author of five books on Anglo-Irish literature and a prominent member of the International Association for the Study of Anglo-Irish Literature. Richard will live on in the hearts and minds of the people he loved and influenced throughout his full and joyful life. May he rest in peace.
