BANGOR - Richard "Dick" Sanborn, 77, peacefully passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, in Bangor. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Laconia, N.H., the son of Wallace and Olive (Davis) Sanborn. Dick grew up in Dover, N.H., and attended local schools. He was a 1958 graduate of New England College, Henniker, N.H., and enjoyed a career as a claims manger for various insurance companions; specializing in workers' compensation matters for Great Northern Paper Co. After his retirement Dick spent 10 years working for Bangor International Airport - thoroughly enjoying meeting people from around the world; most especially, returning soldiers. Dick enjoyed reading, fishing, swimming, and following the Red Sox, Patriots, and UMaine football. He will always be remembered as a likable man with a great sense of humor. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Doris (Slipp) Sanborn; son, Robert Sanborn and his wife, Jane, of Greenland, N.H.; daughter, Nancy Fish and her husband, David, of Glenburn; grandchildren, Lauren and Rebecca Fish of Glenburn; sister, Ellen Johnson of Laconia, N.H.; a nephew and two nieces. In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Robert Johnson. The family would like to thank the staff of the Waterman Unit of Ross Manor for their wonderful care and support throughout Dick's illness. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher of All Souls Congregational Church, officiating. After the service relatives and friends are welcome to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
