Richard Robert Jackson"1937-2013" Richard Jackson, 75, passed away Thursday, June 6th, 2013 at his South Texas ranch, Campos Viejos, in Rio Grande City, Texas. A native of Tallahassee, Richard was born June 30, 1937 to the late Janet and Robert Jackson. He attended Leon High School, and graduated in the class of 1955. In 1960, he received his BS degree in Business from Florida State University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity. Following graduation he joined the Florida National Guard where he rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. After completing his military active duty, he returned to Tallahassee to join his family business, Jackson-Cook Welding and Machine Shop. In 1991, Richard in partnership with Ed Murray, formed TALCOR Commercial Real Estate Service, Inc. where he worked until his retirement in 2006.At that time, he realized his lifelong dream of owning and operating a ranch in South Texas. In conjunction with his son Hardy, Campos Viejos "Old Fields" named for Tallahassee, became a reality where hunters, including many from the North Florida area, have enjoyed hunting native, trophy whitetail deer. In addition to his love and respect of wildlife and hunting, Richard's other passion was baseball. He served for many years in a volunteer position as the pitching coach for Florida High School. During his tenure, the team reached the state finals a number of times, including a State Championship win in 1986.Richard was also an active volunteer in Tallahassee youth baseball, helping the 1999 Tallahassee Babe Ruth team win the National Championship title. Richard is fondly remembered by his many friends. He lived the Golden Rule "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them": Matthew 7:12 .Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nora Nell Hardy Jackson, his son Hardy Jackson (wife Danielle and her two daughters, Christine and Courtney Bigsby), daughter Dinah Jackson Laughery (husband Mike), of Austin, Texas, his sister Bonnie Williams Johnson (husband Larry) of Panama, brother Dennett Jackson of Havana, and sister-in-law Martha Williams Jackson of Havana. He is Big Daddy to grandsons Jackson and Carson Laughery and granddaughter Courtney Bigsby, and beloved Uncle to Derek Johnson (wife Wah Wah) of Richmond, Virginia, Jason Jackson and daughter Kinsey of Boca Raton, and Brad Jackson (fiancée Shaina) of Tallahassee. His large extended family includes cousins Larry Levy and family of Tallahassee, and Eloise Harbeson and family of Tallahassee.A small family graveside service will be held in mid-July, and a celebration of Richard's life will be held on July 21st in Tallahassee. Details will be printed in the Tallahassee Democrat.
