Richard L. Sanborn 1932 - 2013 WEST SPRINGFIELD - Richard L Sanborn, 81 of West Springfield was called to eternal rest Wednesday, July 3rd. He was born in Springfield, July 2, 1932, the son of the late Watson E. and Ruth (Fowler) Sanborn. He grew up in Springfield graduating from Springfield Vocational High School before joining the armed services in 1952. He was an Army Corporal in the Korean War, 8th Calvary Division and a member of the honor guard. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and later served in Japan. He was a salesman in the automotive paint and supply business for over 48 years. An avid golfer, sports fan and caring grandfather, he is predeceased by his sister, Nancy O'Brien, brothers Wayne and Paul Sanborn and daughter-in-law Michele L Sanborn. He leaves his loving wife, Barbara (Santy) of 55 years, his loving children, Karen McMahon and her husband Timothy, Matthew Sanborn, Richard Sanborn, Jr. and his wife Pamela, four beloved grandchildren; Jacob Sanborn, Meghan, Ryan and Christopher McMahon as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4-7PM Wednesday at the TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., W. Springfield. Committal with Military Honors will be 10AM Thursday at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
