Richard John MacDonald of Shalimar, Florida passed away on March 7th, 2013 of natural causes. Dick was born in Rockport, Massachusetts to Bill and Carrie MacDonald, and lived most of his life in the Cape Ann area, including Gloucester and Manchester. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1957, Dick attended Cushing Academy and matriculated from The University of Pennsylvania, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Dick had a colorful career in sales, beginning as a Fuller Brush salesman, and rising to stockbroker and commodities trader in Boston in the early 70s. After leaving sales, Dick became an elementary school teacher in the Manchester and Gloucester school systems, a second career that spanned over 30 years. He retired from teaching in 2005 and moved to Ohio to join his son Adams family during their military assignment there. Later in 2011, Dick moved to Shalimar, Florida to join his family again following his sons retirement from the Air Force. Dick is survived by Adam, his wife Tammie, and their daughters Hillary and Hannah, as well as his son Christopher of Washington DC, his sister Jacqueline Sis Watson of Madison, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews. Dick was 73. A burial ceremony will be held at Beach Grove Cemetery at the famil y plot in Rockport at a later date.
