LAKELAND -- Mr. Richard Paul Hiatt of Lakeland died from complications of cancer Monday (April 18, 2005) at the Highlands Lake Center. He was 83.Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Swayzee, Ind., he came here from Bloomington, Ind., more than 50 years ago. He was a certified public accountant. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from the University of Indiana. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland.Mr. Hiatt is survived by his wife, Merle M. Hiatt; son, David Hiatt of Lakeland; daughter, Jan Hancock, Lilburn, Ga.; stepdaughter, Cheryl Hill of Winter Haven; stepson, Richard Carter of Lakeland; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.Visitation will be this afternoon from 4 to 6 at Heath Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 809 S. Florida Ave., Lakeland, FL 33801.
