SMITH, Richard Edwin, 58 years of age, a lifetime native of Tampa, passed away May 5, 2008, after a brave battle with ocular melanoma. Rick attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School and Berkeley Preparatory School, and graduated from the University of Florida. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, Tampa Yacht and Country Club and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. Rick was a loyal employee of Tex Par Energy. He is survived by his lifelong soul mate, Deborah Hiers Smith, and their three children, Bonnie Smith Martinez, her husband, Billy, Ricky Smith and Scott Smith. Other survivors include Rick' s parents, Armin and Rebecca Smith, sister, Patty Smith Walkup, and husband, Mike, and nieces, Shannon Walkup Edmeads, her husband, Jason, and Caroline Walkup, brother, Stephen Smith, and wife, Betsy, nieces, Natalie Smith and Sarah Beth Smith, brother, A. Frank Smith, brothers-in-law, Kirby Hiers, wife, Mary, and nephews, Jonathan Hiers and Derrick Hiers, Richard Hiers, wife, Cheryl, and nephews, Nick Hiers and Chris Hiers. Richard was an avid Gator fan, history buff, expert joke teller, and enjoyed his Gasparilla pirate friends. His great-grandfather, Edwin D. Lambright, was the first editor of The Tampa Tribune. Rick was a bright light that will be missed by all of his many friends and loved ones. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Ocular Melanoma Foundation, P.O.
