Richard Tribble Davis, 56, husband of Janis Tribble Davis, of 376 Davis Road, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at his home. He was born in Greenwood County, a son of the late William Charles and Nell Tribble Davis. He was a teacher, retired from Greenville County School System and a member of Travelers Rest United Methodist Church. Mr. Davis was a 1964 graduate of Ware Shoals High School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia in 1971 and his graduate degree from Clemson University in 1980. He taught for 26 years in the Greenville Schools at the Greenville Senior High School and Football Career Center. He is also a former Greenville Teacher of The Year. He was published by School Shop and was a member of the National Drafting Association and Cue-Time Pool Team. Surviving are his wife of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Isbill Davis of Travelers Rest; a stepdaughter and husband, Kristina and Ben Placke; two grandchildren, Niegel Placke and Sage Placke, all of Harpers Ferry W.Va.; four cousins, Janet Davis Munns of Greenwood, Carol Hooper and Linda Scott, both of Bennedict, Md., and Kelly Johnson of Lexington Park, Md.; an aunt, Julia Tribble of Honea Path; and his faithful companion, Chandler Davis of the home. Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Redden, Richard Wood, Jerry Leach, John Isbill, Edward Isbill and John Lynn. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Redden, David Dyal, Joe Wood and Gene Munns. The family is at the home and will receive friends at Poplar Springs Baptist Church today from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Western Laurens Volunteer Fire Department. Parker-White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
