RICHARD DAVIS - ROCKLEDGE - Richard C. (Dick) Davis, 77, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away early Saturday, January 3, 2009, from complications following surgery. Born March 11, 1931 in Wilmington, DE, the son of W. Paul and Nellie I. Davis, Dick graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1948, started work as an apprentice plumber and graduated from Brown Vocational night school with a journeymans license. He served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Calvary Division in Japan and Korea from 1951 to 1953. While in the service, he met and fell in love with Joan M. Quinn who he married upon his return from the service in 1954. They spent almost 55 years together and she was the love of his life. Together they are the parents of seven children, Susan M. Dutton (Harold E.) of Lewes, DE, Patti A. Sweimler (E. Mitchell) of Millsboro, DE, Michael J. Davis (Susan M. Callahan) of Rehoboth Beach, Jane L. Skipper (Danny deceased and her fiance Doug Stilwell) of Merritt Island, FL, Edward P. Davis (Andrea Vattilana) of Grason ville, MD, John C. Davis of Cleveland, OH, and James F. Davis (Julie Hickman) of Rehoboth Beach, DE. He is also survived by grandchildren, Aimee Dutton, Erik Sweimler, Mallory Spurlock, and Erin, Sean, Matthew, Nicholas, Kynan, Zoe, and Jimi Davis; great-grandson, Jaydon Mifflin; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Dick was a plumber most of his life having owned his own business for over 30 years. He was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Shawnee CC in Milford, DE where he was the senior club golf champion five times. He also organized an annual golf trip to Virginia Beach for 20 years. He was also very proud of his service and life membership with the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. Dick was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Pauline R. Wojciak of Winter Park, FL; his brother, Willam P. Davis of Milton, DE; and his son-in-law, Danny Skipper, of Merritt Island, FL. Services will be held at St. Marys Catholic Community on January 10th at 11 a.m. with a memorial mass to be held at St. Edmonds Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE on January 17th, at 11 a.m. There will be no viewing. In lieu of lowers, the family is requesting donations to St. Marys Catholic Church, 75 Barton Blvd., Rockledge, FL 32955.
