MARLBOROUGH Richard B. Jeffrey, 81, of Marlborough, formerly of Wayland for 45 years, died July 4, 2008. Born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Arthur G. and Elizabeth W. (White) Jeffrey, Mr. Jeffrey was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, and ended his career in Japan as a communication specialist. He graduated in 1951 from Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in commerce. After graduation, he started his career with Scott Paper Co., followed by a new career in banking. His positions included director of marketing for Framingham Savings Bank, public relations director of the Massachusetts Savings Bank Association and vice president of marketing for Peoples Savings Bank. His final career was with the former State Mutual Life Assurance Co., where he was a registered representative specializing in financial planning. He was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland and served as an usher for more than 25 years. He was a direct descendent of John and Priscilla Alden who arrived on the Mayflower. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean W. (Wall) Jeffrey, his wife of 52 years; devoted father to Keith A. Jeffrey of Framingham, Carol J. Nichols of Cedar Knolls, N.J. and David W. Jeffrey and his wife, Sheila, of Ashland; loving grandfather to Drew and Craig Nichols and Sara and Kurt Jeffrey. He is also survived by his dear friend, Edith Thistle of Marlborough. He was the brother of the late Barbara Jeffrey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, at 11:30 a.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Road (Rte. 126), Wayland. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, is directing arrangements. There are no calling hours.
