Carter, Rex ArthurJune 6, 1920 - May 18, 2009Rex Arthur Carter, 88, of Englewood, formerly of Bucyrus, Ohio, died May 18, 2009.A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 2, 2009, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood. Family will greet friends in Kastner Hall after the service. Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Maxine; and a daughter, Linda Carter and her spouse, Patrick Hardesty, of Kennett Square, Pa.He was born June 6, 1920, in Oolitic, Ind., to Audie E. and Myrtle (Ray) Carter. Mr. Carter moved to Florida 24 years ago from Bucyrus, where he retired as a manager with the J.C. Penney Company after 40 years of service. He was active in the Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood and served as an elder. Rex enjoyed serving his community as co-chairman of the Foxwood Security Force and on various committees of the condominium association. He was a member of the Shriners Sahib Temple of the Masonic Order, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and served as past president of the Suncoast chapter of retired J.C. Penney managers. Rex served in the U.S. Army during World War II.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Carter's name to Community Presbyterian Church, 405 S. McCall Road, Englewood, FL 34223.
