March 26, 2003 Rev. Robert E. Brennan, 84, of Syracuse, died on March 26, 2003, at the St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Rochester, NY, September 22, 1918. He attended Acquinas Institute and St. Andrew's Seminary in Roches-ter. He received his degrees at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and was ordained at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, May 22, 1945. After serving in the Hawaiian Islands, he came to the Syracuse Diocese in June 1949, as Assistant Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse. He has since then served as Assistant Pastor at Most Holy Rosary, Syracuse, and Pastor at St. Mary's Church in Cleveland, together with the Mission of St. Bernadette in Constantia; and St. Mary's Church in Hamilton, NY. In 1970 Father Brennan was appointed Chaplain of the Utica State Hospital where he ministered until 1975, when he became Pastor of St. Christopher Church in Binghamton. In 1978 he was appointed Pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Mexico, NY. Upon his retirement in 1986, Father Brennan lived at St. John the Baptist Church in Syracuse, and was Senior Priest in Residence, until he went to St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center in October 1997. The son of Thomas Brennan and Agnes Conway, Father Brennan had three sisters and five brothers who are deceased: Eileen Brennan, Adelaide Brennan, Helen Dowling, Rev. Thomas Brennan, Herbert Brennan, Paul Brennan, Edward Brennan, and Donald Brennan. He is survived by several nieces and nephews mostly living in the Rochester area: Sister Peggy Brennan, Jody Brennan, Tuggy Alicandri, Eileen Byrne, Martin Dowling, Betsy Weishaar, Joan Wedow, Nora Shannon, Pete Brennan, J. Paul Brennan. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John The Baptist Church on Court St. in Syracuse. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Farone and Son Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. John The Baptist. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Restoration Fund at St. John The Baptist Church. In life, Fr. Brennan was generous to this fund.
