The Rev. James Louis Carter, 79, of 13 Wallace St., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Providence Hospital.Born in Centralia, Ill., he was a son of the late George G. and Lillie Mae Carter. He was a retired employee of 3M and GE, was a retired Baptist minister and served in several churches in our area, was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife, Mary Fuller Carter, of the home; a son, Dr. G. Dennis Carter, and wife, Linda W., of Spartanburg; a brother, George H. Carter, of Centralia, Ill.; two sisters, Alice Maynor, of Centralia, Ill., and Martha Allison, of California; five grandchildren, Dennis Carter Jr., John L. Carter, Patrick Carter, Marla Abbott and Joy Carter; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melody Carter.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Revs. David Johnston and Bobby Garrett, with entombment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.The family will be at their respective homes.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.Kennedy Mortuary, Laurens.
