Rev. Herbert Ray Smith, 70, Albertville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Huntsville Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church, where the body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. The Revs. Earl Mitchell, Gene Lambert, Wayne White and Woody Lee will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery in Aroney with Perry Barksdale, Marvin Beck, Denny Broadwell, Kenneth Gillilan, Frank Lang and Jack McCoy serving as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family from 5 until 8 this evening at Albertville Funeral Home Downtown. Bro. Smith, a retired minister, was born Dec. 22, 1939. He was the son of the late Carl Lamar Smith Sr. and Mrs. Hettie Estes Smith, living in Boaz. Besides his mother, Bro. Smith is survived by his wife, Joyce Broadwell Smith, Albertville; a daughter, Susan Smith Sullivan, Madison; and son-in-law, James Joseph Sullivan Sr., living in Afghanistan; three grandsons, James Joseph Sullivan Jr. (Cate), U.S. Coast Guard, Kuwait, Michael Andrew Sullivan, U.S. Air Force, Madison, and Patrick Ryan Sullivan, U.S. Army National Guard, Anniston; two brothers, Carl Lamar Smith Jr. (Betty), Gadsden, and Glenn Smith (Eloise), Boaz; one sister, Carolyn Lee (Richard), Boaz; three nieces; and two nephews. Bro. Smith was also preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law, Howard and Gerty Broadwell.Albertville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
