RENE E. FORTIER April 1, 1924 May 1st, 2007 Rene was a man of grace and dignity whose daily life revealed so much strength and character. He gave selflessly, never expecting anything in return. His "joie de vivre " and lively sense of humor brightened our lives. The love he shared with Therese, his true soul-mate of 63 years, was an inspiration to all of us. He was a man who cared deeply, gave quietly, listened openly and taught gently. To his grandchildren he was the best "Pepere " in the world! To his daughters, he was a true hero. He was courageous until the end, dying peacefully in his loving wife's embrace, surrounded by family. Rene served as Town Councilor, Mayor of Zenon Park, School Trustee, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and sang in the Church Choir. He was pharmacy manager for 17 years and an accountant at Parkland until his retirement. In his retirement, he enjoyed many glorious summers at the cabin at Kip and relaxing winters in Mesa. Rene was born in St. Leon, Manitoba and moved to Zenon Park when he was young. Rene married Therese Courteau on December 28th, 1944. They were blessed with four wonderful daughters. They moved to Saskatoon after retirement. Rene is lovingly remembered by his wife, Therese; daughters, Angele (John) Bregenser, Lucille (Patrick) Lanman, Pauline (Michael) Kukurudza and Mariette (Blaine) Viger; grandchildren, Paul Bregenser (Andrea), James Bregenser (Jamie), Diane (Jeremy) Forster, Daniel Lanman, Michel (Sarah) Kukurudza, Lynn (Jay) Lewin, Nicole Kukurudza (Kyle), Marc (Juanita Bascu) Viger and Christopher Viger; seven greatgrandchildren and his sister, Jeanne Meilleur. Rene was predeceased by his parents, Roch and Elza Fortier; two brothers, Henri and Aime Fortier. Special thanks to the dedicated doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at St. Paul's Hospital, the doctors at Westwinds Clinic and the home care workers for your gracious care during dad's illness. Thank you Father Murray for your compassion and support. Let us all celebrate his 83 years of life and cherish his memory forever. Vigil for Rene will be held on Friday, May 4th at 7:30 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5th, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Murray Chatlain as the celebrant. Memorial donations may be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Research Centre (20 Campus Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 4H4). Both services from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Parish (3339 Centennial Drive). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200).
