NORTH ADAMS -- Raynald Paul LeMieux, 71, of Pinehurst, N.C., died Feb. 7 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Facility of the Duke University Health Community Care in Hillsborough, N.C., following a long illness. He was a native of North Adams. Born in North Adams on Feb. 22, 1933, son of Paul J. and Bernadette Delisle Lemieux , he graduated from the former Holy Family Parochial School on State Road, North Adams, in June 1947 and was awarded the four-year Raoul Bernard Scholarship to attend Assumption High School in Worcester, graduating with the class of 1951. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester and received a scholarship during his sophomore year, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering with the class of 1955. While at WPI, he was a member of the WPI Army Signal Corps Unit of the Reserve Officers Training Corps, where he was promoted to the rank of cadet first lieutenant serving as a platoon leader of Company D. He attended the ROTC summer camp of 1954 at Fort McClellan, Ala. Upon graduation from WPI, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve of the Massachusetts Military District on June 19, 1955. He was called to active duty on Feb. 16, 1957, and served at Fort McClellan, Ala., until Aug. 15, 1957. He was honorably discharged on June 18, 1963. Mr. LeMieux began his working career as a chemical engineer with Standard Oil Co. of Ohio and later joined Engelhard Mineral. Before his retirement on Dec. 31, 1991, he was last associated with Arco Technology in Philadelphia. He enjoyed world travel and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed flying his Cherokee airplane in the b Carolinas. While a resident of North Adams, he was a communicant of Holy Family Church, now Our Lady of Mercy Church on State Road. He leaves three sons , Paul R. LeMieux, Gregory R. LeMieux and Michael J. LeMieux; three sisters, Denise M. LeMieux of North Adams, Suzette T. LeMieux of New York City and Fern M. Goodrich of Syracuse, N.Y.; a brother, Bertrand J. LeMieux of Bonita, Calif., and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Raynald P. LeMieux will take place Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at 10:15 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 610 State Road, North Adams, with the Rev. Michael Twardzik, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 9:15 to 10:15. In lieu of flowers, any donations in his memory are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home. Survivors include brother-in-law Charles E. Goodrich of Syracuse, N.Y.; sister-in-law Lucille LeMieux of Bonita, Calif., four grandsons and four granddaughters, two nieces and three nephews. Published in The Berkshire Eagle on 2/19/2005.
