Raymond (Mickey) Myers Utica Raymond Burr (Mickey) Myers, 86, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Faxton St. Luke's Health Care in New Hartford. He was born on July 17, 1922, in Utica, a son of the late James and Rebecca (Burr) Myers. He attended Proctor High School. He served in the C.C.C., the Civilian Conservation Corps, a program started by FDR before he went into the United States Army. He served his country during WW II in the European Theater; he was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of a Purple Heart and the WW II Victory Medals. In 1985, he married Joyce Ryan, a blessed union of over eleven years. Joyce died on February 15, 1996. Raymond was employed with the United States Postal Service for over 35 years, retiring in 1985. He later worked part-time for Great American grocery stores and Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Living Faith Bible Church in Sauquoit. He also was a member of the Leo B. Wheeler Stars and Stripes DAV Chapter #82 and the American Legion Utica Post #229, where he served as Assistant Quarter Master for the Post #229 Drum Corps. He also was a Scout Leader for many years for the Upper Mohawk Council. Raymond was also very involved in many community affairs. He is survived by his children, Cynthia-Rae Widrick and her husband, Mark, of New Market, MD, Millicent Louise Mish, of Utica, Craig Myers and his wife, Grace, of Rome, and Claudia LaBrecque and her husband, Joe, of Keen, NH. He also leaves his stepchildren, Kathy Wilson Potempa, of Cold Brook, NY, and Brian Wilson, of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Dr. Sheridan Mish and his wife, Irene, Emerson and Aaron Mish, Heather LaBrecque, Jessica Grant and her husband, Brian, Joshua, Jacob and Rebekah-Anne LaBrecque, Foster grandson Steven Hundley, Benjamin Fowler, and Kyleen and Austin Potempa; and three great-grandchildren, Alison, Andrew and Autumn Mish. Raymond also leaves his former wife and the mother of his children, Charlotte Anne Redner, of Port Leyden, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, James, Betty, Lillian, Marie, Clifford and Dick Myers. He also was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melissa Myers; a son-in-law, Andy Mish; and his infant son, Baby Mish. Funeral services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 1123 Court at York Sts. in Utica, with Pastor David Green, of the Living Faith Bible Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to call prior to the service on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment with Military Honors will be in Forest Hill Cemetery on Friday at the convenience of the family. The Leo B. Wheeler Stars and Stripes DAV Chapter #82 and the American Legion Utica Post #229 will have ritualistic services on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM at the funeral home. For those who wish, please consider donations to the Living Faith Bible Church, P.O. Box 475, Washington Mills, NY 13479, in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
