WARM SPRINGS, Ga. - Ray Alton Smith, age 68, of Warm Springs, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, in a fire at his residence, which also claimed the life of his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Fuller Smith, and their special pet dog of 12 years, "Tiny". The memorial service will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Baptist Church in Warm Springs, Ga. Mr. Smith was born August 31, 1942, in Bulloch County, Ga., a son of Thomas Henry Smith Jr. and Lillie Mae Key Smith. He was raised in Portal, Ga., and was of the Baptist faith. He moved to Warm Springs to attend the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, after which, the institute helped him establish Alton's Bookstore in Manchester. He later owned and operated Al's Family Game Room in Manchester. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Waldo H. Smith and Robert Smith; and a sister, Miriam Smith. Survivors include a son, Marshall Fuller (Sandra) of Barnesville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Cynthia Morgan and Melvin Munson, both of Griffin, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Morgan, Jordan Ivey, Jason Munson and Joshua Munson; two brothers, Willie Smith (Sherry) of Meldrim, Ga., Henry C. Smith (Miriam) of Garfield, Ga.; a sister, Janie S. Donaldson of Savannah, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Bloomingdale, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews, including a special great-nephew, Landon Gordy of Woodbury, Ga.
