Randy Carl Smith September 1, 1957 December 24, 2009 Randy passed away on December 24 surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his sister Tina Ritchie, grandparents Irene Dimick and Jerome Ouellette, uncle Chuck (Lloyd) Ouellette, step-father Bill (Isadore) Thibodeau, godparents Edward and Louise Ouellette, and aunt Phyllis Vance. Survived by his children: Rebecca (Becky) (Vicki), Darren, Nathan, Chantelle, Brandon, Autumn and Regan; grandchildren Claudia, Dulcie, Styles and Edan. Randy's life love was boxing. His career included a record of 180 amateur/flyweight fights with only 11 losses. He held the titles for the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships for 14 years; the Western Canadian Championship, the Canadian National Championship and the Golden Gloves. His career expanded to refereeing and coaching. He operated his own boxing club in Calgary (1983) where Archie Moore, light heavyweight champion of the world visited him to give him boxing advice and autographed Randy's boxing gloves which became a cherished momento. He boxed internationally in Cuba where he was the favorite over their country's champion. He participated in the Junior Olympics (73-74), B.C. Festival of Sports (74). He received his coaching diploma in 1980. He used his boxing skills to help inner city children learn boxing. He was the head official of SABA (1980 2002). He was an active member of the Metis Nation, SK. He was president of Local 126 (1992-96), the CEO of SK Aboriginal Assoc. (93-94), Exec Director of SK. Authority Board. He received his Bachelor of Indian Social Work in 1997, Certificate of Academic Counseling (95-97), Business Administration (95-96), Life Skills Coaching (94-95), Master Facilitator, U of A (94-96), Indian Social Work Certificate (93-95) and Pastoral Counseling degree in 1990. He was a counselor with MACSI, Keeawa Counseling, Ramsey Counseling Inc. He was a Life Skills Teacher and the CEO of SK Economic Diversity Inc. Randy's world revolved around his family. He was a favorite with his nieces and nephews. His children were his life. He loved each of them deeply and was proud of each of them. His family and friends will miss his sense of humour, his laughter, his joy of life and his compassion for all. Prayers for Randy will be Tuesday, December 29 at 7:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:30 am. Both services will be held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Any memorial donations may be directed to Westwood Funeral Chapel in care of Rebecca Smith.
