Rachel Baskin Carter ROCK HILL - Rachel Baskin Carter, former hostess, secretary, and wedding planner at the First Baptist Church of Rock Hill, went to Heaven on Monday morning, January 19, 2015. Born April 26, 1923, at Fork Hill community, Lancaster County, SC, Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the Reverend Minton A. and Effie Hinson Baskin and the wife of the late Cecil T. Carter of Rock Hill. Educated at Wingate College, she actively served her church community for more than a half century. Like Jesus, she was able to feed the multitudes of hungry worshippers wholesome meals on a limited budget. Mrs. Carter loved children and young people, especially. Known to generations as "Aunt Rachel", she was always ready for a trip, an outing, or a retreat and always willing and eager to share a joke or play a prank. She truly lived by the Golden Rule. She was a gift to everyone who knew her. To say that she was greatly Loved, Honored, and Respected seems an understatement. We miss her more than possible, already, and we will not forget her. Mrs. Carter is survived by two sisters, Robbie B. Outen of Lancaster and Sybil B. Faulkenberry of Heath Springs, and sister-in-law Claudia A. Baskin, also of Heath Springs. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a multitude of young people for whom she will always be "Aunt Rachel". A Memorial Service for Mrs. Carter will be held at First Baptist Church, Rock Hill, on Wednesday afternoon, January 21, at 1:00 PM in the church worship center. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Carter may be made to Home Care and Hospice of Lancaster and/or First Baptist Church, Rock Hill.
