Avis de décès de Ruth-Hall Carter


CARTER, RUTH HALL, 84, passed away on July 25. Born in Little Falls, NY, she spent her childhood in Buffalo, Oswego, and Jersey City where her father served as a Lutheran pastor. After attending Westminster Choir College, she and her first husband, Harwood Hall, moved to Washington, DC, where they developed an extensive and renowned music ministry at First Baptist Church. While in DC, she was also a professional soloist, performing in sacred music programs and appearing frequently with the National Symphony Orchestra. In 1955, she moved to Orlando, where she worked as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church and served for many years as alto soloist in the Chancel Choir. She also served as the church administrator at Park Lake Presbyterian Church and as administrative assistant for The Westminster Towers during its design and construction phases. She continued her professional singing career, performing with the Florida Symphony, the Bach Festival Choir, and many other choirs in the area. One of her favorite roles was that of the mother in Gian Carlo Menotti's "Amahl and the Night Visitors." She was an elder of the Presbyterian Church, a life member of Presbyterian Women, a volunteer with the church's After School Ministry, a driver for Meals on Wheels, and an active committee member at Westminster Towers. She is predeceased by her second husband, Grover J. Carter, whom she married in 1980. She is survived by a brother, Robert Reumann of Atlanta, daughters Carolyn Horton of Asheville and Susan Chapman of Winter Springs, sons Robert Hall of Durham and Richard Hall of Atlanta, their spouses, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepchildren Beverly Carter Brim of Deltona, Grover J. Carter, Jr. of Lake Mary, and Martha Carter of Orlando, their spouses, four step grandchildren, and nine step great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held August 4th at 2PM in the Reformation Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be designated to the Community Outreach Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, 106 E. Church Street, Orlando, FL 32801.
