Rose Williams died at home on July 3, 2002, after a long illness. The daughter of the late Jesse and Rose Williams, Chris grew up in Rochester, NY, where most of her family resides. For almost 30 years, she has lived in New York City and Westchester County. A former Sister of Mercy out of Rochester, NY, Chris was professed in the Lay Carmelite Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in June 1998 and belonged to the Third Order, Tabor Chapter. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Transfiguration Church, Tarrytown, NY. Chris received a Master of Social Work degree from NYU in 1973. She worked for the NYS Office of Mental Health from 1974 until retiring in 1989. She held clinical and administrative positions at various psychiatric facilities including Kingsboro, Creedmoor and Manhattan Children's Center. Her caring, gentleness and grace with patients and staff brought about much healing. Following her retirement, in the mid 1990's, Chris worked part time as a social worker for Blythedale Children's Hospital, Valhalla, NY. She had a passionate desire to work at this facility serving disabled children and their families since interning there as a graduate student. Chris's family consists of her sister, Sister Mary Teresita Williams, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Rose Williams and Jerry and Dorothy Williams, her late brother and sister-in-law Emory and Betty Williams, beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and her dear friends with whom she made her home for the past 15 years, Marge Lohse, Marion Heim and Marcia Gellert. A lover of people, flowers, art, music and all things beautiful, Chris will be remembered most for the exquisite beauty she created wherever she went and for the joy and love she brought to all who knew her. Visitation will be at COFFEY FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, from 7-9 pm ONLY and on Monday from 9-10:30 am. Her Funeral Mass will be at Transfiguration Church on Monday at 11 am with interment to follow in Kensico Cemetery. Donations may be made in Chris' memory to Phelps Hospice, 701 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY, 10591, who cared for her so lovingly during the last weeks.
