Rose Mary (Kuhn) Cleary, 88, of Clinton, MA, died December 28, 2011, at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Memorial Campus, Worcester, following an illness. Her husband of 65 years, Edmund P. Cleary, died in 2010. She is survived by three children, Michael E. Cleary PhD of Waltham, Kathleen M. Cleary MD of Clinton, and Mary Anne Cleary of Clinton and her partner, Brian Doran. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, William F. Cleary of Glenshaw, PA; a sister-in-law, Sister Miriam Cleary OSU of New Rochelle, NY; and a number of nieces and nephews. Her sister, Ursula, Sister M. Campion CSC died in 2010. Rose Mary was born and raised in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of Charles A. and Clara M. (Yeager) Kuhn. She attended St. Joseph's Academy for 12 years, graduating in 1940. Following graduation, she began work at General Electric Co. and in the fall of 1943 she met Edmund Cleary at a Catholic Youth League meeting. They were married on April 7, 1945 in St. Paul's Church, Schenectady. Mr. Cleary worked for General Electric and Honeywell and they were transferred a number of times during their marriage, living in Syracuse, NY, Phoenix, AZ, Los Altos, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, and Acton, MA. Following retirement in 1984, they made their most lasting move to the warmer climate of Melbourne, FL where they resided until 2009. A very social, capable individual, Rose Mary belonged to numerous clubs and societies, including Altar Society and Newcomers Club in the various towns they lived in and Homeowners Association at Lakes of Melbourne, serving as president of each of these organizations. She was an accomplished seamstress and gardener and enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts, including wood, clay, paint, and cloth. Additionally, she enjoyed many years of square dancing with her husband, an activity later joined in by her children. Rose Mary's funeral was held on Saturday, December 31, 2011, from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, MA, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge St., Sterling. Private burial will take place in St. Leo's Cemetery, Leominster, MA. Relatives and friends were invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Friday, December 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, December 31, from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Rose Mary to: National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1150 17th NW Suite 850, Washington, DC 20036.
